Introduction to Relational Trauma

This session has two themes. The first explores the impact of Vicarious Trauma on educators who become overwhelmed by the trauma stories from families and children. Recognising Vicarious Trauma and how to look after self and support others. The second theme understanding normal brain development and the impact of trauma on the brain and child’s behaviour. The role early childhood educators play in building nurturing and supportive relationships with the child and their family.

This session is offered on different days and at different times to support educators to be able to attend.

Our Trainers:

All training sessions delivered by the Australian Childhood Foundation are facilitated by members of our therapeutic services, parenting and early years program. These staff members are qualified and experienced professionals that are engaging in trauma-informed practice with children, young people and families.

Detailed Costs: 
$214.50 per person, per session. Registrations require payment in order to confirm your place in the workshop. If payment is made by credit card at time of registration your place is guaranteed in the workshop you have registered for; if you pay by invoice you have a tentative registration until payment is received. All invoices MUST be paid for prior to the workshop date. NB: If the workshop becomes fully booked before your payment is made, your tentative booking will be cancelled.



 
 
 

Learning Outcomes

 
  • Build awareness of vicarious trauma and strategies to address the need for self-care when working with traumatised children
  • Develop strategies and build capacity of/within the service to identify and respond supportively to those staff experiencing vicarious trauma
  • Have a better understanding of the context of the trauma for families – brain development and impact of trauma on brain.
  • Enhance ability to use relationships between staff and traumatised children as vehicles for change
  • Know how to build meaningful and non-judgemental relationships with families
 

 

Target Audience

 
This workshop will benefit all early childhood educators. Understanding Vicarious Trauma and its impact on educators and how to look after themselves is important information for all early childhood educators working with children effected by trauma. Educators can begin to understand relational trauma and its impact and increase knowledge and skills.
 

 

Our Trainers

All training sessions delivered by Australian Childhood Foundation are facilitated by members of our therapeutic services and professional education services teams. These staff members are qualified and experienced professionals that are engaging in trauma-informed practice with children, young people and families across Australia. Training team members draw on their practice wisdom and current experiences to contextualise the training content to practice challenges and successes.  They are able to link the theory and research to improved outcomes.
