Therapeutic Specialist - Darwin

  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • Fully maintained company vehicle
  • Attractive salary and excellent benefits including, phone, tablet and salary packaging
  • Full or part time available

The Australian Childhood Foundation has a strong reputation for delivery of clinical services, professional training and secondary consultation programs built upon up to date and evidence and based upon theoretical frameworks including the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and relational theories and child development.  This theoretical framework provides the foundation upon which all elements of care and intervention are provided by the therapeutic care programs.

The opportunity:

We currently have a part time or full time opportunity for a Therapeutic Specialist in our Darwin office, providing therapeutic services across a residential care setting.

The Foundation has a partnership to deliver therapeutically informed Residential Care for two residential care houses. The Therapeutic Specialist will assume the role of clinical lead and work closely with staff in each of the residences to support the implementation of a trauma-informed model and therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their families.

The residential care program seeks to provide a care context for children and young people who have experienced abuse and trauma, addressing the impact of trauma on the child’s emotional, psychological, behavioural and social functioning. Through the provision of care that has a deliberate therapeutic intent, the placement seeks to actively promote the recovery of the child/young person from the effects of the trauma. A therapeutic care plan is developed for each child within the program and reviewed regularly.

The major elements of the therapeutic residential care program include the provision of an enriched, therapeutically intentional environment throughout all staff interactions. This will be achieved by an inclusive team approach, and the provision of specialised therapeutic support and training to carers/staff.

About the role:

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Therapeutic Specialist who will act as a specialist therapeutic consultant and practitioner within the therapeutic residential houses in partnership with other key agencies. You will be a key member of the support team for residential care staff and other professionals working with the children and young people.
