By attending this workshop participants will be able to consider how healing can be supported by:
- Music-making is a natural part of children’s general play that ignites all areas of their development, including literacy and numeracy skills, emotional intelligence and social development
- Music is processed directly by the amygdala, the part of the brain involved in mood and emotions
- Playing musical instruments, movement and singing has a number of therapeutic benefits to support trauma-affected children
- Music can express emotions not otherwise easily communicated
What difference will this make to your practice?
Participants will gain skills and knowledge to understand the importance and role of:
- Music will boost and enhance your relationship with the child
- Children’s self-confidence will be supported by engaging in music
- Offering enjoyable musical opportunities for children to practice self-regulation skills with your encouragement
- You will be promoting the reawakening of feelings of pleasure and engagement that have been dulled by trauma exposure
